How to care for your spray tan for Summer

Before you come in for a spray tan ensure you have no moisturiser or deodorant on. It is best to wear lose clothes to minimise any marks from getting dressed again, slip on shoes are also advised. The day before your tan you should gently exfoliate your body for an even tan. If you are a regular tanner, you will get the best results from the spray tan if you have removed all your previous tan. Areas that are often more stubborn or are forgotten include the ankles, the underside of the upper arm and around the underarms. If you are having a spray tan it is important to wax/shave at least a day before your tan.

To maintain your spray tan, avoid chlorine if possible as this will strip your colour quicker. Keeping the skin moisturised will extend the life of your tan, either with gradual tanning moisturiser (it is best to use a mitt with this to get an even result and avoid orange hands) or with your regular body moisturiser. If your tan starts to look a bit patchy around day 4 or 5 you can gently exfoliate your body with a mitt and some mild body wash to even out your tan and get a few more days out of it.

For removal of spray tan there are a few methods. A tan eraser is the easiest to start with. Apply all over the body and wait 10 minutes minimum (I leave mine on for 30-60 minutes) then hop in the shower and use an exfoliating mitt to remove the rest of your tan. For more delicate areas (around the décolletage) use a damp face washer. If you still have stubborn bits of tan that won’t come off, soak in the bath and use your exfoliating mitt and some soap and focus on those areas. Sometimes you will need to give your skin a break and try the following day. Always follow tan removal with a nice rich body moisturiser to avoid drying out your skin.
